Choose a story to follow

A character guide is easier to follow when you know the conflict around it. These routes connect existing articles in an order that moves from context to consequences. They contain spoilers for the worlds they discuss.

Runeterra: from the Ascended to the Darkin

Begin with the source of the Ascended's power before following its legacy into the Darkin. This order makes the transformation a historical question: what happened to beings once associated with protection and empire?

  1. The Ascended Creation — the foundation for the later histories.
  2. How Darkins Were Created — the transition from the Ascended to their darker legacy.
  3. Rise of the Darkin — the conflict expands beyond a single warrior.
  4. Aatrox: The Darkin Blade and Rhaast — two individual stories within that legacy.

Then read Who is the most powerful Darkin? as a comparison of those histories. A ranking is an argument to examine, rather than an official statistic.

Warhammer 40K: the Emperor's project and its fracture

Follow the Emperor's story in stages before branching into the Primarchs. Reading the rise, preparation, civil war and aftermath together gives each character's actions a larger setting.

  1. The Emperor's rise and early life.
  2. Preparing for the Great Crusade.
  3. The Emperor during the Horus Heresy.
  4. The Emperor after the Heresy.

The Primarch overview is a useful next stop. Choose an individual study from the Warhammer archive once you know which part of the conflict interests you.

Abaddon: a four-part character history

This series follows one character across different periods. Read it in sequence to distinguish the conditions he inherited from the organization he later built.

  1. Deadly Beginnings.
  2. During and after the Heresy.
  3. The Black Legion Forged.
  4. The Black Crusades and the Fall of Cadia.

Elden Ring: the structure before the family conflict

Start with the central object and the ruler associated with it, then read the account of the Shattering. That background helps explain why the demigods' disputes have consequences beyond the participants. The setting leaves room for interpretation; check an argument against the game's evidence.

  1. What is the Elden Ring?.
  2. Who was Queen Marika?.
  3. The Shattering Explained.
  4. Malenia vs. Radahn.

AION: a divided world across two games

Read the original AION overview first for the setting, then the AION 2 lore guide for the sequel's premise. Keep the original Cataclysm and the sequel's account of later disaster separate when following the Tower's history.

Comparisons with a clear question

The revised yordle power comparison separates equipment, battlefield strength and broader magic. Read it alongside Corki's guide to see why the conditions of a fight matter, or Norra's guide for the difference between portal travel and destructive power.
