Opening
Champion's story
Deep within the eerie heart of the Shadow Isles, a solitary yordle plods through the ethereal mist, finding solace in its own despondency. Possessing an endless wellspring of teenage angst and a potent shadowy companion, Vex has crafted her own realm of darkness, far removed from the nauseating cheer of the "ordinary" realm. While lacking ambition, she swiftly quashes any traces of vibrancy and joy, halting all potential intruders with her mystical aura of melancholy.
Having grown up in Bandle City, Vex never felt she truly belonged. The whimsical and colorful yordle realm felt suffocating to her. Despite her parents' best efforts, she struggled to connect with her "yordle spirit" or find like-minded friends. Instead, she spent much of her time sulking in her room.
Within the confines of her solitude, Vex found an unlikely companion in her own shadow. It was black, her favorite color, and it didn't utter a word--making it the perfect companion for the brooding young yordle. She entertained herself by creating somber performances with her shadow as her sole audience.
However, her shadow alone couldn't shield her from the reviled cheerfulness that surrounded her. Vex yearned for something darker and more in tune with her own melancholy.
Her desire was fulfilled when the Harrowing, a sinister event, swept through Bandle City, casting it into chaos. While most yordles fought valiantly to repel the Black Mist, Vex was drawn to its eerie allure. She decided to follow the source of the miasma, which led her to the Shadow Isles--a desolate realm devoid of life and color. Here, she could finally sulk without interference from others.
As time passed, Vex noticed that the Black Mist had a peculiar effect on her. Her shadow took on a more vivid and expressive personality, while her benign yordle magic morphed into something far more malevolent. Now, she could spread her misery far and wide.
Intrigued by this new world, Vex questioned, "Who created this wonderfully awful place?"
Her inquiry was soon answered when she encountered the Ruined King, Viego, who sought to envelop the world in his Black Mist. Viego recognized Vex's unique ability to sow despair and vulnerability, and they forged an alliance to bring darkness to the entire world.
However, their partnership took a surprising turn when Vex discovered Viego's true motive: to reunite with his lost love, Isolde. This revelation disgusted Vex, as the man she had trusted to extinguish happiness had secretly sought it for himself. Vex distanced herself from Viego, leaving him to be defeated by the Sentinels of Light.
Alone once more, she observed the world returning to its bright and colorful state, a place she had always despised. Finding lasting melancholy proved to be more challenging than she had anticipated.
Vex knew of one place where she could achieve the misery she longed for. She paid a visit to her parents in Bandle City, eager to reveal her transformed self and relish in their disapproval.
As her parents looked on in bewilderment, their expressions shifted from shock to reluctant acceptance. They expressed their unconditional love and support for her.
Rolling her eyes and sighing exasperatedly, Vex muttered, "You guys are the worst."
She departed from her parents' home, eager to return to the Shadow Isles, where she could continue her sullen existence undisturbed.
Of course that we also have a story for Vex, called "The Meaning in Misery", in which we find her on the desolate island of the Shadow Isles. The ever-present Black Mist hung thick in the air, creating an atmosphere of despair that perfectly matched Vex's mood. She was roused from her night's slumber by a chorus of eerie specters, hoping to engage in their peculiar game that looks like hide and seek, with the seeker being named "the gravedigger" ... I know, the ghosts wanted to play hide and seek with her, it must be really boring to ghost around all day, can't judge them.
Reluctantly, Vex agreed to play but insisted that someone else be the gravedigger this time. Her shadow volunteered for the role, and Vex begrudgingly accepted, setting the rules while lamenting their foolishness. As her shadow began to count to one hundred, the other specters hid among the island's rocks and ruins.
However, as the game began, Vex noticed something unusual bobbing through the haze a pair of pointy ears. The familiar voice accompanying those ears soon confirmed her suspicions: it was her unwelcome Uncle Milty.
Uncle Milty cheerfully called her "small fry," much to Vex's disdain. He explained that he had come to visit her and share her parents' concerns. They were worried about her living alone in the gloomy, ghostly Shadow Isles.
Despite her reluctance, Uncle Milty implored Vex to visit her parents and show them that she was okay. Vex vehemently refused, citing her aversion to the vibrant world and yordle cheerfulness. When Uncle Milty attempted to create a portal back to Bandle City, Vex used her shadow to extinguish it, refusing to go through it.
Undeterred, Uncle Milty suggested that Vex's stay in the Shadow Isles had caused her to lose her "yordle spirit" and that returning home briefly would rekindle it. He conjured the rainbow portal once more, but Vex resisted, realizing that her true torment was being a yordle trapped in a world of unwavering enthusiasm.
In a moment of clarity, she declared the futility of life and questioned its purpose. She argued that everything, including happiness, was fleeting and inevitably faded away. This perspective deeply affected Uncle Milty, and he couldn't find words to counter her grim outlook.
Vex went further, emphasizing that the essence of life was death, and yordles had been denied even that escape. Her bleak words drove her uncle to tears and left him questioning the meaning of life. As Uncle Milty ran away in distress, the rainbow portal dissolved, and Vex was left in peace.
Finally free from intrusive cheer, Vex called her spectral companions out from their hiding spots, ready to indulge in another game, this time as the gravedigger.
Champion's relations
When it comes to her relations to other characters it seems like we don't have many things to say, she's not eager to meet people. What we know is that yes, she liked Viego for his evil plan of taking the world and turning it to a dark place, but suddenly she changed her mind when she found out it was all for love ... a very stupid reason that does not represent her nature.
We saw she has an uncle and parents that still love her, in return, she ignores them and does not care about things like love or family, all she enjoys is playing with the spirits of the Shadow Isles.
