Veigar

Opening

In the realm of Bandle City, an ardent yordle sorcerer named Veigar has delved into mystical powers that few dare to explore. Originally, he was a free-spirited being, driven by an insatiable curiosity to unravel the celestial magic practiced by mortals. However, his destiny took a dark twist when he found himself incarcerated within the foreboding walls of the Immortal Bastion. Now, Veigar stands as a tenacious wielder of the formidable power of the celestial spheres, a force many underestimate. Despite his self-proclaimed evil persona, there exist those who doubt the true nature of his motives...

Champion's story

For the majority of the inhabitants of Runeterra, yordles are not typically regarded with fear. Their legendary home, Bandle City, is often described as a mystical and spiritual place, brimming with curious trinkets and keepsakes collected from various corners of the material realm. These inquisitive beings occasionally venture into the mortal realms, gathering fresh stories and experiences to share upon their return.

Veigar scene

However, regrettably, there are yordles who lose their way, and among them is the enigmatic sorcerer, Veigar.

Following the catastrophic aftermath of the Great Darkin War, which left Valoran in ruins many centuries ago, the world sought solace in the celestial heavens. Survivors looked to the skies, rekindling their study of ancient celestial magic, a pursuit that deeply intrigued Veigar. Seeing himself as a master of these mystical arts, the yordle joined a group of mages in the Noxii territories without arousing suspicion, eager to expand his knowledge. He taught them to draw hope from the patterns formed by the stars' movements.

While many dedicated themselves to rebuilding the world, others aimed to conquer it. The ruthless warlord Mordekaiser and his armies swept across the lands, subjugating any who opposed his rule. The mages of Veigar's order, lacking combat skills, offered little value to this tyrant. Mordekaiser, looming in his accursed battleplate, identified Veigar's true nature. He seized the yordle with an iron gauntlet and abducted him as the other mages met a grim fate.

Within the heart of Mordekaiser's colossal fortress, Veigar was compelled to wield his magic for malevolent purposes. Mordekaiser, recognizing the yordle's cunning, bound Veigar to the physical plane, preventing him from escaping to Bandle City. Although he was not the only captive in this nightmarish place, the isolation was particularly cruel for a yordle. Veigar was compelled to perform grisly enchantments against his will, strengthening Mordekaiser's dominion and spreading terror.

Terror fueled Mordekaiser's horrific empire, and Veigar, miserable beyond imagination, bore witness to the warlord's vile deeds, which granted him near-immortality. Time blurred within his captivity, causing Veigar's magic and appearance to warp in response.

His memories of the past faded. Why had he come to Valoran? Where had he originated? Did he possess any semblance of life before this? These questions burdened his fragile mind like the last moments of light before an eclipse.

When Mordekaiser's own followers plotted against him, the reign of terror came to an end, but by this point, Veigar was hardly recognizable. His eyes burned with malice, and even his voice had transformed into a sneer. Escaping his ensorcelled prison, the wretched creature showed no interest in the ensuing power struggles. Deep down, he likely yearned for safety and freedom, like any living being.

Yet, he chose not to turn away from evil but to embrace it. Clad in sinister warlock's attire, he vowed to gain recognition through ruthless villainy, instilling fear in all who crossed his path. He sought to harness the power of the stars to punish his adversaries and trap them in the timeless voids between moments.

However, Veigar struggled to achieve the same level of success as his former captor.

Certainly, the people of Valoran grew to fear him to some extent. More often than not, they would discover their lands scorched or noble estates reduced to rubble. Occasionally, and inexplicably, bands of bandits found their woodland hideouts disrupted, or the remains of feral murk wolves scattered across the town square. It was challenging to discern whether these acts were malicious or potentially beneficial. Despite his aspirations of evildoing, Veigar always seemed to fall just short.

Nevertheless, the nefarious yordle remains steadfast in his pursuit to become the world's most wicked villain. With his diabolical staff in hand, he aims to bring all who underestimate him to their knees, reveling in their timely demise.

We have the story called "The True And Ghastly Tale Of The Beast Of Boleham Tower" and it is about Veigar, who is portrayed as a villainous sorcerer living in a tower. He revels in his malevolent persona and is confident in his own power. However, his confidence is put to the test when a group of villagers, led by a determined woman named Margaux, storms his tower, demanding justice for the terrible acts they believe he has committed.

The story unfolds as the villagers confront Veigar, who tries to intimidate them with his magical powers and grandiose proclamations of his evilness. However, the villagers accuse him of causing various misfortunes in their lives, from cursing their fields to harming their livestock. They bring forth their grievances, making it clear that they hold him responsible for their woes.

As the villagers voice their complaints, Veigar's bravado begins to wane, and he finds himself on the defensive. Eventually, Margaux and the villagers propose a surprising compromise: they ask him to continue his reign of terror but to spare their village. In return, they promise to show him the proper deference, spread tales of his evil, and even inform him of other potential targets for his malevolent deeds.

Seems like the villagers found out that Veigar was not that evil as everyone thought, he is seeking knowledge and to master magic in every way possible, but in doing that he actually defeated a lot of really dark mages that were harming and threatening the villages around them.

Champion's relations

This yordle met some other champions, but as we know Mordekaiser tortured Veigar to gain knowledge about other realms. Eventually, Veigar's personality would shape to be more like his captors. However, due to his yordle nature, he could never perfect his masters cruelty, only a caricature of it.

Veigar knew LeBlanc, who was also forced to work for Mordekaiser.

In the old lore, Veigar is a friend of Lulu. In the current lore, Veigar is related to Lulu. But their connection in the new lore is left ambiguous.
