Shyvana

Shyvana carries within her a heart ablaze with raw elemental magic. Though she walks the world in a humanoid guise, her true form is that of a mighty dragon, wreathed in fire and destruction. When she saved Crown Prince Jarvan IV from certain death, she earned a place in his royal guard. Yet among the wary citizens of Demacia, she remains an outsider, forever caught between two worlds--one of fire, the other of steel.

The Chronicle

Scattered across Runeterra, in the most hidden corners of the world, a few ancient nests still cradle the last of the great elemental dragons.

Shyvana scene

Long after the Shuriman empire crumbled into dust, deep beneath a forgotten volcano, the elder dragon Yvva guarded her clutch with unyielding fury. Her eggs, treasures beyond mortal understanding, drew the greedy and the desperate alike. Over the years, their charred bones littered her chamber--proof of her wrath. Yet one thief, reckless and cunning, did what none before him could.

A mage, nameless to history, stole into her lair and fled with a single egg clutched tight to his chest. Behind him, the jungle burned as Yvva's fury shook the land, but he did not falter. He reached the coast, vanishing into the horizon, while the dragon, defeated, slunk back to protect what remained of her brood.

North he traveled, toward Piltover, eager to sell his prize. But fate had other plans. Before he could strike a deal, the egg began to crack. Perhaps the nest's warmth had been too soon forsaken, or perhaps the changing season had stirred something within. Whatever the cause, it was no dragon that hatched, but a child--humanoid in form, with violet-hued skin. Staring into those strange, burning eyes, the mage found himself unable to turn away. He named her Shyvana, after the dark legend of her mother, and raised her as his own.

It did not take long for the truth to emerge--Shyvana was no mere mortal. Even as a child, she could shift into something monstrous, a creature out of ancient legend, neither fully human nor fully dragon. Life among the people of Valoran was a struggle, but a far greater threat loomed beyond their fearful gazes. Across the sea, Yvva had not forgotten the stolen egg. The bond between mother and daughter had only grown stronger, and when her other young finally took flight, Yvva abandoned her empty nest and set out to reclaim what was hers.

The land below was torn by war, yet no soldier's blade could match the terror of the great dragon's shadow. Armies scattered, villages burned, and in the chaos, Shyvana fled. She and her adoptive father took shelter in the ruins of a farmhouse, but there was no escape. With a single pass, Yvva set the world alight, her fire swallowing the man who had raised Shyvana as his own. Desperate, she pulled him into the depths of the forest, but it was too late. Beneath the sheltering branches of an ancient oak, she buried him, leaving behind the only home she had ever known.

For weeks, she wandered the wilds, always moving, always hunted. But one day, the scent of blood drifted through the trees. There, barely clinging to life, lay a wounded warrior. For the first time since her flight began, Shyvana saw something she could change--someone she could save.

Without hesitation, she shed her human guise, took on the form of the beast within, and carried the dying man through the forests to the border of Demacia.

Within the stronghold of Wrenwall, Shyvana learned the identity of the warrior she had saved--Prince Jarvan, heir to the Demacian throne. Though the soldiers eyed her violet skin with wary glances, they did not turn her away. Demacians stood by their own, and for the first time in her life, she felt a measure of peace.

But the wind carried a warning only she could sense. Yvva was coming.

As Jarvan recovered, he gathered the town's defenders, bringing the frightened villagers within the castle walls. Shyvana, however, made her decision--she would leave before the battle began. When Jarvan confronted her, she confessed the truth. The beast that hunted her was her own blood, and she could not allow innocent lives to be lost for her sake.

But the prince would not hear of it. She had saved him once; now he would stand and fight at her side. His words stirred something deep within her, and for the first time, she did not run.

Then the sky darkened.

Arrows streaked upward as Yvva descended, but her flames swept across the battlements, toppling warriors from the walls. Stone crumbled beneath her talons as she tore at the keep. And in that moment, Shyvana leapt--soaring into the storm, her form twisting mid-air, her human guise melting away in a blaze of fire and fury.

A roar split the heavens as mother and daughter met in battle, their titanic forms locked in a struggle not seen since the Rune Wars. The skies over Wrenwall burned with dragonfire.

Bloodied and weary, Shyvana wrestled Yvva to the ground, their battle shaking the very foundations of Wrenwall. With one final surge of strength, she snapped her brood-mother's neck upon the stone, and the great dragon fell still.

Prince Jarvan himself honored her valor, offering not just gratitude, but a place at his side. If she would return with him to his father's halls, she would have a home in Demacia. With Yvva's skull as a trophy of their victory, they set forth for the Great City.

But Demacia was not the sanctuary it seemed. Shyvana soon learned that the kingdom stood divided, its people bound by a deep mistrust of magic, a fear at odds with the ideals they claimed to uphold. Though she had earned respect as one of the prince's most trusted guardians, a question lingered in her mind. Would they still call her ally if they knew what truly burned within her?

MAGESEEKER

The Mageseeker showed us more of Shyvana's story, As Demacia burned with rebellion, Jarvan faced Sylas in a brutal duel. Steel clashed against stolen magic, and the prince teetered on the edge of defeat. Just as Sylas moved to strike the final blow, a shadow fell over them, and Shyvana descended from the sky. She had sworn to be his Dragonguard, and she would not fail now.

The battle raged anew, but Sylas proved relentless. Seeing the danger, Shyvana urged Jarvan to retreat. Trusting her instincts, he obeyed, leaving her to unleash her true form. Flames roared as she shed her human guise, the earth trembling beneath her might. But she had underestimated the Kingslayer. He struck hard and fast, bringing the dragon down. Wounded, Shyvana tumbled from the sky, her body breaking against the ground as she reverted to human form.

Sylas moved in to finish her, but Jarvan stepped between them, willing to give his life for her--not just as a guard, not just as a warrior, but as something far more. Sylas saw it at once. The prince, heir to a kingdom that shunned magic, had given his heart to a being made of it. Hypocrisy dripped from his words as he taunted Jarvan, but there was no time for debate. Raising what strength remained, Shyvana summoned a circle of fire, sealing herself and Jarvan within and forcing Sylas to retreat. Before vanishing into the night, he vowed that this was not over--that he would see them both dead before the end.

Drained and broken, Shyvana collapsed into Jarvan's arms.

When the battle ended, Demacia's laws left her with no choice. A being of magic had no place within its walls. Once more, Jarvan pleaded with her to stay. Instead, she asked him to leave with her, to carve out a new life beyond the kingdom's reach. But they both knew the truth--he could not. The weight of his lineage, of his duty, bound him here.

Before she left, she made one final request: that he not let his father's cruelty shape the nation he would rule. But Jarvan only shook his head. "It's too late for that," he admitted.

A sad smile touched her lips. No transformation lasts forever, she reminded him, then turned to the open sky. With a final look back, she leapt from the castle tower, wings unfurling as she vanished into the night.

Yet she never flew too far.

When the Mageseekers fell and Jarvan cast aside the chains of the past, the sky brightened once more. From the distant horizon, a familiar shape took form. Free at last, Shyvana was returning home.

Champion's relations

Thankfully, Shyvana is a champion that has some relations worth talking about, the most evident one, of course, being her relation with Jarvan IV. Shyvana saved Prince Jarvan IV after his escape from Noxian captivity. In return, he stood by her side in slaying Yvva, her brood-mother, an act that secured her place among Demacia's Elite Guard. The Lux comics hint at Jarvan's love for someone who bore similarities to mages--perhaps none other than Shyvana herself.

Shyvana later became part of the Dragonguard, an elite Demacian military order dedicated to protecting the kingdom from dragons. While some of her comrades trusted her, others remained wary, unsettled by the very nature that made her their most formidable weapon.

During the Rise of the Sentinels, Shyvana was imprisoned by the Mageseekers, her faith in Demacia crumbling under the weight of its persecution. When Viego awakened and the Ruination spread, she succumbed to its darkness, unleashing her fury upon a Mageseeker compound and striking terror into the heart of Demacia's armies.

Vayne, ever the hunter, had always seen Shyvana as a monster. When the Ruination consumed her, Vayne sought to end her, but Lucian and Senna intervened. Senna, sensing that Shyvana's true self still lingered beneath the corruption, stayed Vayne's hand. After Viego's defeat, Shyvana--like the others enslaved by his will--was freed, returning to the warrior she once was.
