Champion's story

As Grand General Boram Darkwill's rule neared its end, he entrusted the Black Rose and its legion of hemomancers with a unique task: crafting a living weapon unlike any before. This creation, unlike their prior experiments with the deceased, would be a creature born from and sustained by blood alone--a relentless force driven to pursue targets without the need for conventional sustenance.

And thus, Briar came into existence.

Briar scene

Initially intended to be an assassin, Briar had different appetites--her relentless desire to consume, consume, consume! Her inaugural mission, however, ended in a frenzied, gory failure, prompting the Black Rose to deem her too perilous for deployment yet too potent for obliteration. In a bid to control her, they devised a specialized pillory, secured by a hemolith gemstone, to restrain her and channel her instincts. Shackled with the pillory, Briar, alongside other living weapons of the Black Rose, was swiftly deployed during Jericho Swain's coup against Darkwill.

Assigned a handler to guide her, Briar's liberation took a dark turn as she devoured him and those in her proximity, sparing only her target, Swain, who managed to escape while the living weapon feasted upon friend and foe.

Following a challenging capture, Swain's guards successfully activated Briar's pillory, reinstating her restraint and facilitating her transfer to their holding facility.

Isolated in her cell, Briar's thoughts were consumed solely by her insatiable hunger. Although immune to death by starvation, the absence of fresh blood weakened her day by day.

Initially mistaking the cacophony of crazed wails in her surroundings for her own starving thoughts, Briar soon realized they emanated from unseen neighbors. Were these others captured by Swain's forces during the coup, each having failed their mission? The purpose of their confinement remained a mystery.

The voices incessantly clamored for blood--a sentiment Briar could understand. However, what grated on her nerves wasn't the frequency or volume of their cries but the singular focus on blood. Their unyielding hemomania became the most tedious experience she had ever endured.

Despite Briar's intense hunger, her thoughts remained fixated on the pitiful sounds emanating from her fellow captives. The prospect of breaking free from the pillory loomed in her mind--what if her frenzied liberation made her even more unhinged than her neighbors? Could she succumb to the same single-minded and tedious existence that surrounded her? The notion was too horrifying to dwell upon, leading her to resign herself to listless solitude.

As years passed in isolation, Briar found time for introspection, contemplating her own nature and envisioning the possibilities beyond the confines of her cell. To stave off boredom, she engaged in unconventional forms of entertainment, from eavesdropping on the guards' conversations to devising creative ways to pester them for raw meat. The dilemma of whether to race her pet spiders or consume them became a recurring source of agony.

In a twist of fate, while idly toying with her pillory one day, Briar inadvertently loosened the hemolith. It settled into a position tantalizingly close to unlocking her restraint. Frozen in contemplation of her potential descent into hemomania akin to her neighbors, Briar had a revelation--being under control could be as perilous as being unrestrained. Her newfound desire was to strike a delicate balance.

Having unraveled the hemolith's mechanism, Briar hatched a meticulous plan.

At this juncture, the guards had grown accustomed to her persistent calls for attention. Seizing an opportune moment, she lured one close to her cell, and his disappearance went unnoticed until it was too late. The guard's life force surged within her, igniting a dormant fire that had long awaited release.

Briar had achieved her freedom.

Now, the living weapon joyfully traverses the streets of Noxus, her pillory securely fastened--until the moment she chooses to unlock it. As she acquaints herself with the outside world, under the watchful eye of the Black Rose monitoring this unforeseen turn, Briar eagerly immerses herself in learning, forging new connections, and making discoveries in a world she has long yearned to experience.

Champion's relations

Forged by the Black Rose's hemomancers as a lethal entity, Briar emerged as a living weapon. However, her initial mission's failure revealed the peril of leaving her unrestrained. To curb her untamed instincts, the Black Rose confined her in a specialized pillory, featuring a hemolith gemstone crafted to maintain focus and control over her mind.

Deployed later by the Black Rose to assassinate Jericho Swain during his coup, Briar lost control, leading to her capture by Swain and his guards.

Upon escaping Swain's holding facility, Briar became the subject of ongoing monitoring and espionage by the Black Rose. They observed her as she roamed the streets of Noxus, intrigued by her unexpected evolution into a more sentient being.

Forged through the magical art of hemomancy, Briar's creation bears a significant connection to Vladimir, a foundational figure within the Black Rose. While the precise nature of their relationship remains shrouded in ambiguity, strong implications suggest that Vladimir played a pivotal role in bringing Briar into existence. Acknowledging him as her creator, Briar somewhat views Vladimir as a paternal figure, contemplating the idea of referring to him as her 'dad,' even as she grapples with the uncertainty surrounding their connection.

Towards the conclusion of his rule, Boram Darkwill vested the Black Rose with the responsibility of crafting living weapons. Under his oversight, the Black Rose focused on creating Briar, intending her to be the epitome of a perfect assassin. However, when deployed to assassinate Jericho Swain during his coup, Briar's mission ended in failure. Subsequently captured by Swain's guards, her defeat played a role in Swain's eventual takeover of Noxus and Darkwill's demise.

Sion stands as yet another product of the Black Rose's hemomancy experiments, wherein they endeavored to revive him through blood magic. Among their numerous endeavors, Sion found himself incarcerated in the same facility as Briar, occupying a cell adjacent to hers. Briar, during her imprisonment, perceived Sion as a tedious and straightforward result of the experiments, causing annoyance. Although the precise nature of their relationship remains elusive, Briar's reaction suggests disappointment and irritation upon discovering that Sion too had managed to escape the facility.

It is not really known why or where Briar knows about Talon, we only have some theories like the one that Le Blanc has intentions involving Talon, likely due to the assumption that he opposes Swain. A shared adversary could potentially lead them to collaborate in the future. Considering Briar's connection to the Black Rose, it is challenging to definitively assert, but there is a possibility that she became aware of Talon through Le Blanc's observations.

Given Talon's status as one of the foremost assassins in Noxus, as indicated in his biography and quotes citing a trail of bodies, Briar might be aware that he can provide ample sustenance without drawing attention to herself. It is plausible that she has learned about Talon through Le Blanc and sees an opportunity for obtaining nourishment discreetly. Evidently, Briar seeks to avoid becoming a chaotic menace unless the situation demands it. But as I said, it is only one of the many theories out there, but this one seems pretty interesting.
