Despite their playful nature, yordles have a deep sense of loyalty and will go to great lengths to protect their friends and allies.
Humans
Humans are a diverse and adaptable race that come from all corners of the world. They are characterized by their ingenuity, resourcefulness, and ambition. Humans in the game come from many different cultures, each with its own unique traditions, beliefs, and practices. Some are nomads, others are merchants or farmers, while others still are skilled warriors or magic users. Humans are also known for their diversity in physical appearance, with a wide range of skin tones, facial features, and body types represented. Despite their many differences, humans in the League of Legends universe share a common desire for power and influence, and will often compete with one another to achieve their goals.
The Vastaya
The Vastaya are beings that are a mix of human and animal characteristics. They are said to have descended from the ancient magic of Ionia, a region in the world of Runeterra. The vastaya are known for their physical and magical abilities, which they possess due to their magical ancestry. They are able to shift between human and animal forms, and their animal features can range from feathers and wings to scales and fur. The vastaya are also known to possess magical abilities related to their animal traits, such as enhanced speed and agility, heightened senses, and even the ability to control the elements. In terms of their culture, the vastaya are known to live in close-knit communities within Ionia. They are also deeply connected to nature and the spirits of their ancestors, and often have a strong sense of honor and duty. In League of Legends lore, some prominent characters that belong to the vastaya race include Rakan, Xayah, and Ahri. Overall, the vastaya are a fascinating and unique race within the League of Legends universe, with their mystical and animalistic qualities making them stand out among the other races in Runeterra.
The Aspects
The Aspects are a powerful and ancient race. They are celestial beings imbued with immense magical power, and are said to be the guardians of the cosmos. The Aspects are known for their immense power, which they use to protect the world from various threats. They are also able to imbue individuals with a portion of their power, granting them magical abilities and making them a vessel for their will. For example, Leona and Diana are both champions in League of Legends who have been imbued with the power of their respective Aspects (aspect of the moon and of the sun). In terms of their culture, the Aspects are often depicted as aloof and enigmatic beings, with their motivations and goals remaining largely mysterious. They are also said to have a complex hierarchy and relationship with one another. Overall, the Aspects are a fascinating and powerful race within the League of Legends universe, with their celestial nature and magical abilities making them stand out among the other races in the world of Runeterra.
Celestials
Celestials refer to all the beings that originate from the celestial realm beyond Runeterra. Among the first beings that came to be in the universe, they are alien in comparison to the physical and spiritual realms. These beings come in various forms. From the Aspects as representations of concepts and ideals, to the numerous beings such as Celestial Dragons that interact with the world of Runeterra with motives far beyond mortal understanding.
The Brackern
The Brackern are a species of sapient, crystalline scorpions with great magical power that live peacefully in Shurima. A brackern's most noticeable visual feature is its crystalline exoskeleton. It is unclear what kind of inner body anatomy they possess, however, they do possess mouths which would indicate the existence of some kind of internal anatomy (if at least a basic one). Brackern are a very long living species, with individuals being able to live for at least a millennia. They are also able to hibernate for centuries, only waking up when being disturbed by outside forces. A brackern's namestone is one of the most important parts of a brackern's body, being critical to the livelihood and culture of the brackern, so much so that those with stolen stones face immediate death if they should wake, and many cannot even be roused from their slumber without one.
DRAGONS
The dragon race is a powerful and ancient species within the League of Legends universe. They are large, serpentine creatures with scaly skin, sharp claws, and powerful wings, and are often associated with the elements of fire and air. In the world of Runeterra, dragons are highly revered and feared creatures, with many cultures and civilizations worshipping them as gods. They are known to possess immense magical power, which they use to control the elements and bend them to their will. Whether organic or inorganic in origin, Golems are artificial constructs designed or inevitably created by sentient hands to provide a tireless aide for the plethora of purposes it was made for, usually combining multiple capabilities for a multitude of work or a focused specialty otherwise unachievable by a normal person. Golems are made with either a semblance of intelligence or full-fledged sentience, although creation of them is frowned upon by people for reasons ranging from ethical to moral.
Minotaurs
Minotaurs are enormous humanoid bovines. They live in great tribes in the vicinity of Piltover and Noxus, and are quite noble and valorous in their ways. Many Minotaur clans joined the Noxian Minotaur war machine; those that opposed the empire were enslaved and forced to fight as gladiators in the brutal Noxian event known as the Fleshing. Alistar, the Minotaur, is a survivor of this game and seeks to protect his people from the harsh treatment he endured. Some minotaurs migrated to Demacia and integrated into the kingdom's society; there are even some in the Dauntless Vanguard.
Spirits
As creatures that inhabit the ether and are divorced from the mortality that mortals suffer, spirits are similar to Celestials in a sense that they help maintain the balance of the natural world, intervening every now and then, whether the causes they support are maligned by mortals or revered by them. Spirits are deathless, returning to the ether when their physical vessels are destroyed and returning again to continue their crusade. Often these spirits beings, or spirits empowered beings, also seem to have some sort of natural ability to alter their physicality. Spirits are seemingly not tied to a shape or to time in the same way physical beings are.
Titans
Titans were a species of humongous bipedal beings, towering over mountains by great lengths. They originated from the sky, falling down on the First Lands at the beginning of recorded history. They went extinct after being defeated by the Vastayashai'rei during the Titan War. In Ionia one can see faces on some of the stones there, and there is a possibility that those are the faces of the fallen Titans.
The Vastayashai'rei
The Vastayashai'rei are an ancient, presumably extinct, species that originated from enlightened mortals that took the power of the spirit realm into themselves. The powers they gained from tapping into the spirit realm granted them near immortality, potent shapeshifting powers and the ability to use the natural world as a weapon in order to fight a species of Titans from the sky that threatens The First Lands. It is unknown what happened to them after ancient times. Each of the vastayan tribe originates from an individual vastayashai'rei that had offspring with non-vastayashai'rei such as humans.
Trolls
Trolls are a grotesque, humanoid species that inhabit the Freljord and Shurima. Frost-trolls of the Freljord are mostly blue-skinned and live in tribes. Lately, the frost-trolls have begun preparing for war, rallying under the banner of Trundle, the Troll King. There are also sand-trolls that live in Shurima and Ixtal and giant-trolls scattered across Valoran. It is unknown how many sand-trolls and giant-trolls are still extant, as their kind are considered a myth in modern times.
Undead
The word Undead is a broad term that refers to beings that consist of a single soul or an amalgamation of souls originating from one or multiple mortal species that are bound to the physical realm by physical or a magical medium. An example of a physical medium would be a body or an armour. Mordekaiser was able to resurrect by being bound to an armour piece.A magical-natured medium example would be the Wraiths bound to the Black Mist. They are not able to leave the Shadow Isles on their own. Only when the Harrowing starts and the Mist creeps towards Bilgewater are they able to go beyond the shores of the Isles.
Voidborn
Voidborn are Runeterran beings constructed by the Watchers of The Void. Their reason for existing is to accept, consume, and learn all the information about Runeterra necessary enough to aid for the eventual return of the Watchers.
The Watchers
The Watchers, also known as the Frozen Watchers or the Pierce-Eyes, are ancient beings of The Void and the masters above all living Voidborns, as well as creators of the prototype models of the modern ones. They are responsible for transforming Freljord native beings into Iceborn, who would later rebel against The Watchers' rule. In the mostly forgotten myth, the Howling Abyss was built to contain The Watchers by Ornn at the request of the Three Iceborn Sisters.
Yeti
A mammalian race that inhabits the Freljord. They are intelligent beings that used to live in harmony with other creatures, like the Yordles. However, after an icy cataclysm that decimated their population, the yeti race was never restored to its original numbers and are a rarity to encounter. Their intelligence and wisdom were utterly connected to their magic. However, Lissandra unleashed an icy cataclysm which decimated the Yeti civilization and robbed the Yeti of their magic, resulting in most Yeti descending into savagery. While peaceful in nature, most yeti are protective of their own kind and can use violence if necessary for defence.
Well and now we are done covering the most important races of this universe, of course there are others out there and other subspecies of the species we have talked about (e.g. like how the Darkins are a subspecies of the Ascended), but we will talk about them in detail, there’s plenty of time. Next we should discuss a bit about the cities and important places from Runeterra.
