The Chronicle
Xin Zhao's name carried whispers of invincibility in single combat, yet his life had always been a struggle against fate. His earliest memories drifted on the waves of the Viscero, an Ionian fishing vessel where he toiled as a cabin boy, scrubbing decks and untangling nets under the watchful eyes of seasoned fishermen. It was a simple, quiet life--until the day their course led them into peril.
Two Noxian privateer ships descended upon them, cutting off any escape. Their commander, speaking of imperial glory, seized the Viscero and its crew as spoils of conquest. The aging fishermen, unfit for war, were taken nonetheless. The journey across the ocean was harsh, but it was what lay beyond the waves that truly shattered Xin Zhao's world.
Gone were the serene Ionian waters and whispering trees. In their place loomed the stone walls and towering gates of Noxus, a city overflowing with bodies, its streets thick with the weight of an empire's ambition. Here, a man called Darkwill held dominion. Torn from his shipmates, with no way back to the home he had lost, Xin Zhao was given no choice but to serve the very man who had claimed him as property.
Xin Zhao's talent with the spear did not go unnoticed. A patron saw the potential in him, offering a life beyond mere survival--one where meals came on plates and his skill would earn him more than just another day alive. In Noxus, strength was currency, and Xin Zhao was deemed valuable.
With nothing to lose, he accepted. The rags of his past were stripped away, replaced by crude armor, and he stepped into the Reckoning arenas.
It was a brutal spectacle--warriors, each bearing grand titles, clashed beneath the roar of a bloodthirsty crowd. Victory was not just about skill, but showmanship, and Xin Zhao, now called "Viscero," mastered both. His battles filled the stands, his victories lined the pockets of his sponsors, and his name became legend. In mere years, he rose from an unknown fighter to one of the most feared Reckoners in Noxus.
But fortune, like the favor of the crowds, was fickle.

Beyond the spectacle of the Reckoner arenas, Noxus faced turmoil. Enemies pressed against its borders, rebellions ignited across its lands, and war loomed on every front. Whispers spread that Darkwill and his council sought warriors by any means necessary, offering gold for the quiet release of mercenaries, prisoners, and gladiators alike. With little more than a handshake, Xin Zhao and his fellow Reckoners were sold, shipped westward as nameless tools of war.
Their destination was Kalstead, a coastal fortress where past glories meant nothing. Thrown into battle against the elite forces of King Jarvan III, Xin Zhao quickly realized war was no arena match--there were no roaring crowds, no sponsors, only death and the clash of steel.
Many of his fellow Reckoners fled, vanishing into the chaos. But Xin Zhao stood his ground, his spear carving through the ranks of Demacia's finest. Hundreds fell before him, yet the tide would not turn. When the king's Dauntless Vanguard closed in, their swords ready, he did not falter. He did not beg. With his weapon in hand and his pride unbroken, Xin Zhao welcomed the end.
However, Jarvan thought differently. Unlike the arena crowds, the king of Demacia took no pleasure in needless killing. He granted the defeated Noxians their freedom, if they would swear to leave Kalstead in peace. Surprised by this show of mercy, Xin Zhao thought about what awaited him back in Noxus. He could return to a society where his life had meant little beyond the gold he earned for his patrons... or he could fight for those who embodied the virtues to which he, himself, aspired.
Compelled by honor, he knelt before Jarvan III, pledging himself to the king's service.
In the decades since, Xin Zhao has proven his loyalty time and again. As a seneschal of the royal household, he acts not only as bodyguard and advisor to his friend and master, but also to the king's son--the young Prince Jarvan, who became the 4th king Jarvan of Demaica.. Xin Zhao's path to becoming a Demacian may have been unusual, and yet he never falters in his commitment to the kingdom and its ideals. This is not from a sense of duty, he reasons, but by choice.
Champion's relations
From his story we can derive some important relations he has with other characters. Xin Zhao was originally an Ionian born Noxian gladiator who pledged his service to Jarvan III, Jarvan IV's father, after he spared the lives of those who fought at Kalstead. He later became as close to the king and the young prince as a family member.
Xin Zhao took an oath to Tianna Crownguard that she may kill him should anything happen to king Jarvan III. And as we now it happened, but Jarvan IV stopped him, emphasizing that his live is much more precious to Demacia and that his oath to protect the kingdom is far greater.
