Join me as we explore his terrifying return to realspace, his devastating battles, and the endless bloodshed he brings to the galaxy. Let's dive into Angron's story after the Heresy.
The Chronicle
As the 31st Millennium dawned, the World Eaters' savagery worsened. The Emperor sent Horus to bring Angron back into the Imperial fold, unaware that Horus had already fallen to Chaos. Horus, seeing Angron's bitterness, fed into his anger and resentment towards the Emperor, highlighting his perceived betrayal. This led Angron to join Horus in his rebellion against the Emperor. The Isstvan III Atrocity marked the beginning of the Horus Heresy. Horus, seeking to destroy the Loyalists, initiated a brutal virus-bombing of Isstvan III, but many of the Loyalists survived. Angron, defying Horus, led the second wave of World Eaters in a massacre of his own Loyalist brothers. Despite Horus' displeasure at Angron's impulsiveness, he supported his ally as the planet's atmosphere cleared for a decisive orbital strike.
The Traitor forces eventually overwhelmed the Loyalists, marking the true beginning of the Horus Heresy. The opening days of the Horus Heresy saw Lorgar, primarch of the Word Bearers, command Erebus and Kor Phaeron to strike at Ultramar, driven by the deep humiliation his Legion had endured. The Battle of Calth followed, a monumental victory that crippled the Ultramarines and sparked the creation of the Ruinstorm, a Warp storm more destructive than anything seen in millennia. At the same time, Lorgar's forces, aided by Angron's World Eaters, wreaked havoc across the Five Hundred Worlds of Ultramar, slaughtering entire populations to ensure the Ruinstorm's success and sever the Imperium's unity.
The storm was a devastating force, isolating Ultramar and denying the Loyalists any reinforcement as Horus moved toward Terra. On Nuceria, Angron's personal demons were exacerbated by the Butcher's Nails, whose damage had worsened since the Battle of Calth. Lorgar, seeking a solution, convinced Angron to return to his homeworld for answers, promising revenge on the Nucerians who had first implanted the Nails.
Upon reaching Nuceria, Angron mourned his fallen gladiator brothers but was enraged to hear the lies about his departure during the Battle of Desh'elika Ridge. Angron ordered a massacre, killing all on the planet in a blind rage. The Ultramarines, led by Roboute Guilliman, launched a retaliatory assault, eventually cornering the Traitors at Nuceria. Despite heavy casualties, the Ultramarines engaged in a brutal space and ground battle, with both sides clashing mercilessly in a fight for revenge.
The Ultramarines' fleet fought desperately to eliminate the Word Bearers and capture Angron's flagship, the Conqueror. Despite fierce resistance, the World Eaters' flagship was boarded, and the Ultramarines landed on the planet, engaging in a savage war against the World Eaters and Word Bearers alike. During the chaos, the Fidelitas Lex, Lorgar's flagship, sustained severe damage as the Ultramarines focused their firepower on it. As the battle raged, Guilliman and Lorgar finally faced each other. The two primarchs clashed briefly, but neither showed any interest in their warriors as they fought on, locked in a silent, violent confrontation amidst the carnage.
The two primarchs fought with the ferocity of gods, their movements an impossible blur to the Space Marines around them. Guilliman confronted Lorgar, enraged by the Word Bearers' actions across Ultramar. He struck Lorgar with a powerful punch, but the Word Bearer repelled him with telekinesis. Lorgar's Crozius slammed into Guilliman's head, leaving the two brothers bloodied and locked in a fierce struggle. Amidst the chaos, Angron emerged from the ranks, blood-soaked and driven by the rage of the Butcher's Nails, launching himself at Guilliman.
Angron's fury matched the violence of the battlefield. Guilliman, though powerful, struggled under the storm of Angron's blows. A glancing strike shattered one of the skulls hanging from Angron's chain, inciting the World Eater's wrath. As Angron charged, Lorgar began a dark chant, summoning the Ruinstorm. The sky split open, unleashing a crimson torrent of blood, and Lorgar's powers began to warp Angron's body.
Lorgar, in his desperation, sought to save Angron from his suffering, but his incantations led to Angron's apotheosis into a Daemon Prince. The World Eaters' Librarians, sensing the danger, tried to intervene but failed, and Angron's transformation was completed. The once-wounded primarch turned his fury on them, killing the remaining Librarians and purging the Legion of any weakness.
Angron's ascension pleased Khorne, the Blood God, who rejected all psykers from his servants. With his transformation complete, Angron's rage and bloodlust were unstoppable. Guilliman, gravely injured, withdrew from the battlefield, unable to comprehend the corruption his brothers had undergone. As the World Eaters finished their purge of Nuceria, Angron, now a Daemon Primarch, left the world behind, and Lorgar believed he had saved his brother from endless pain.
Back aboard the Conqueror, Angron's first order in his new form was to have Khrn massacre the slaves and construct him a throne of skulls, further enhancing his power with a blade forged by the Dark Mechanicum.

After the Shadow Crusade, Angron, now fully consumed by the Blood God Khorne, went on a blood-soaked rampage, ignoring Horus' calls to join the final assault on the Emperor's throneworld. The Iron Warriors, under Perturabo, were sent to bring Angron back, tracking the World Eaters to Deluge. There, they found the planet's population slaughtered, and were soon met with a brutal assault from Angron and his berserk warriors. The two primarchs clashed, with Angron's sheer strength overwhelming Perturabo, but the Iron Warriors' tactical prowess and bombardment eventually forced the Daemon Primarch into retreat.
Angron's rage intensified, especially when he learned that the Death Guard would lead the assault on Terra instead of him. Furious, he massacred his own crew, but was temporarily subdued by Khrn and others, who had him teleported into a labyrinth aboard the Night Lords' ship, Nightfall. Trapped in the maze designed by Perturabo, Angron struggled to escape, but it was only a brief respite before he was sent to the Throneworld.
During the Siege of Terra, Angron descended in a fiery meteor, causing mass destruction as he rampaged toward the Imperial Palace. Though he challenged his brother Sanguinius, the Blood Angels' primarch declined, refusing to fight that day. Angron's wrath was unstoppable, leading the charge on the Eternity Wall. However, despite his devastating blows, including breaching the Palace gates, the final victory eluded him. Horus' death at the hands of the Emperor shattered the Chaos forces.
With the Heresy ended in defeat, Angron and the World Eaters retreated into the Eye of Terror. There, in a Daemon World shaped by Khorne, they became fractured, driven to endless bloodshed. The World Eaters, once a unified force, now wander as warbands in an unending pursuit of slaughter, with no true home base, their only purpose to serve Khorne's insatiable thirst for blood.
After the Horus Heresy, Angron's presence in the Materium remained rare. He was occupied with the wars of Chaos or ruling his Daemon World within the Eye of Terror. However, there were notable instances when he led forces against the Imperium.
In the mid-38th Millennium, Angron, commanding 50,000 Chaos Space Marines and Chaos troops, carved a path of destruction across Imperial space for over two centuries, seizing control of 70 sectors. In response, the Imperium launched a crusade involving Space Marine Chapters, Titan Legions, and Astra Militarum regiments. The campaign, known as the "Dominion of Fire," eventually reclaimed ninety percent of the lost territories.
The First War for Armageddon began when Angron, seeking unity among his fractured World Eaters Legion, emerged from the Warp aboard the space hulk Devourer of Stars. The sudden arrival of Angron's forces led to an unexpected Chaos invasion of Armageddon. As Chaos forces, including millions of cultists and Daemons, poured into the planet, a large portion of the Planetary Defense Force betrayed the Imperium, swearing loyalty to Chaos.
Angron's advance was slowed when the Warp Storms dissipated, severing his army's link to the Warp, forcing him to halt and construct bloody monuments to Khorne. This gave Imperial defenders time to regroup and call for aid from the Space Wolves, led by Logan Grimnar.
The battle intensified when the Grey Knights, a secret order tasked with combating Daemons, intervened. They teleported directly into the Chaos horde to confront Angron. The Grey Knights fought valiantly but suffered heavy casualties. In the end, Captain Aurellian managed to banish Angron back to the Warp, although he perished in the process. Hyperion, the sole surviving Grey Knight, used his psychic powers to shatter Angron's sword, and later earned the title "Bladebreaker." The Chaos forces retreated, and the Imperium secured a hard-fought victory, albeit at great cost.
In the Era Indomitus, Angron, the Daemon Primarch, is a terrifying force, wielding his Chainaxe Spinegrinder and the Daemonblade Samni'arius. Following the Great Rift and Noctis Aeterna, the Third War for Armageddon reached a brutal standstill. With reinforcements cut off, Orks and humans fought together against the rising tide of Daemons. As the Astronomican beacon blazed once again, Imperial forces, led by the Salamanders, halted a Daemonic ritual aiming to bring Angron back to Armageddon. Yet, Angron's attachment to realspace grew stronger, and even voidship-class weapons could only slow his return. Should he be banished, he reemerges unscathed, marked by ominous crimson omens.
The World Eaters, once scattered, now rally behind their primarch. Each warband is unique--some still wear the blue-and-white armor of the Great Crusade, others have adapted to new ways of warfare. Angron, now a central player in the Great Game, poses a new threat to the Imperium. His return in the Arks of Omen Campaign marks his first appearance since the First War for Armageddon. Angron massacres Kossolax's lieutenants aboard the Conqueror before leading a devastating assault on Kalkin's Tribune, obliterating the Imperial forces there. His fury is uncontrollable, and even Kossolax, once his commander, struggles to direct him.
Angron's path takes him toward Malakbael, drawn by a psychic beacon. The Grey Knights attempt to ensnare him, but despite their efforts, Angron survives, even overcoming their final trap. On Malakbael, he seeks the Choral Engine, a device that could amplify the Imperium Nihilus' strength. Battling the Grey Knights and Tempestus Scions, Angron triumphs, his presence used to destroy the Choral Engine, corrupting Imperial forces into mindless Khornate Berzerkers.
Later, in the Battle of Idolatros, Angron faces the Blood Angels and their Lord Commander Dante, defeating them. However, the Lion, primarch of the Dark Angels, arrives, and in a final, fierce duel, Angron's rage is unmatched but ultimately, the Lion strikes the fatal blow, beheading the Daemon Primarch and casting him back into the Warp.
