The Chronicle
Born into one of Noxus's most powerful families, Ambessa Medarda seemed destined for greatness from the start. Although her lineage did not hail from the ancient noble houses, the Medardas had carved out immense influence and respect across the empire. Young Ambessa was introduced to bloodshed early, watching Reckoners clash in the arena, each risking their life for a taste of glory. Though too young to wield a blade herself, she absorbed every move, every calculated strike, and felt the pulse of battle even from afar.
After the fateful Battle of Hildenard, Ambessa's father sent her to collect the blades of fallen soldiers. Still a child, she moved through the carnage without flinching, her gaze unwavering as it took in the finality of death. By the day's end, she understood death--not as a terror to flee from, but as a force to respect. Sacrifice, she learned, was noble. Greatness demanded it.
The Medarda code, born from their earliest days as Shuriman coast traders, celebrated the cleverness of the desert fox and the fierce power of the legendary wolf. It was no surprise when Ambessa chose a soldier's path, carrying forward the lessons of her childhood. With her family's honor as her compass, she demanded decisive action, both from herself and from others.
Ambessa became more than just a daughter of the Medardas; she was a warrior, rising to command multiple warbands as a general, and one of her grandfather Menelik's beloved protgs. Yet she was not only a soldier--she was a woman with passions, a lover, a mother. Life offered her many experiences, but none struck her as deeply as the moment she held her son, Kino, for the first time. In that instant, she understood devotion, an unbreakable bond beyond anything she'd felt before.
But with such love came the risk of disappointment. She adored Kino, yet it was clear he lacked the fire of a warrior's spirit.
Not long after, Ambessa found herself at the edge of death while defending her ancestral home of Rokrund--pregnant with her daughter, Mel. Amid the lifeless bodies of her allies and foes, she lay in the grip of mortal peril, drifting in and out of consciousness. In those hazy moments near death, visions came to her--visions she would seldom share. Whatever she glimpsed in that shadowed realm steeled her resolve and ambition, fortifying her with an iron will to shape the world so that her children's vulnerabilities could never be used against them.
From that moment, Ambessa's ascent was nothing short of meteoric. She fought at the front of every battle, meeting death's gaze without a tremor. With each victory, her courage deepened, her cunning sharpened, her resolve hardened.
When her grandfather, the venerable Menelik Medarda, passed without naming an heir, the family erupted into a bitter struggle for succession. Yet, Ambessa knew that the path forward was hers by destiny. With relentless determination, she overcame her rivals, pledging to craft a legacy worthy of the Medarda name and the inheritance her children would one day claim.
As the new matriarch, Ambessa began to voice her personal creed with greater fervor:
In all things, be the Wolf.
Weakness and dissent would find no shelter in her presence; such vulnerabilities would never be allowed to take root. With that same resolve, she sent her daughter, Mel, to the distant city of Piltover.
Years passed, and then whispers reached Ambessa's ears--rumors of an extraordinary invention known as "hextech," created by the idealists of Piltover. Intrigued by the power this discovery might hold, Ambessa journeyed to the gleaming city to visit her daughter, seeking to understand if hextech could serve as a new weapon to elevate the Medarda family's power further still.

In time, Mel rose to power in Piltover, becoming a Councilor and the wealthiest individual in the city. Her influence was instrumental in advancing Piltover's technological revolution, as she became the primary sponsor of Jayce Talis and his pioneering hextech innovations, which reshaped global trade and transportation.
Meanwhile, Ambessa's son, Kino, met a tragic end. He was killed by a powerful man he had offended, and Ambessa soon realized that this man's vendetta was far from over. With his resources, he posed a significant threat to the Medarda family, capable of striking again. To fortify their position against this looming danger, Ambessa traveled to Piltover, aiming to secure weaponized hextech for her clan.
Hearing of the rising tensions between Piltover and Zaun, Ambessa sought to convince Mel and Jayce to take action, hoping they would engage in war with the undercity using Jayce's hextech weaponry. While Mel resolutely refused and persuaded the Council to avoid provoking war, Jayce felt compelled to intervene, leading an assault on one of Silco's shimmer factories alongside Vi. This raid took a tragic turn when Jayce accidentally killed a young boy, leading him to abandon the idea of war entirely.
Mel confronted her mother over her manipulation of Jayce, and Ambessa finally disclosed the reason behind her desperation--an impending conflict with Kino's killer in Noxus. She urged Mel to let the war unfold, promising that once it was over, Mel could return home and stand by her side. In response, Mel rejected her mother's offer, removing her family ring and supporting Jayce's proposal for peace with Zaun, which included granting the undercity its independence.
Champion's relations
For Ambessa, nothing is more precious than her family. Let's talk about her relations, and we will start with her daughter. Mel Medarda faced exile from the Medarda Clan after Ambessa judged her as harboring a weakness unbefitting of their lineage. For years, many believed this weakness alone was the reason for her exile. Later, however, Ambessa revealed a deeper motive: she feared that Mel's influence might soften her own ruthless resolve, weakening her in a way that could not be tolerated. This self-imposed armor was essential, not only for Ambessa but for the entire Medarda family.
Even after Mel's exile, Ambessa held her to these unyielding standards, dismissing Mel's emotional displays as undisciplined and claiming she had taught her better than to let feelings override control. Despite this harsh exterior, Ambessa felt a lingering fondness for Mel, carrying a desire to reunite her with the Medarda Clan after Kino's death.
Ambessa viewed Kino's diplomatic approach to politics with a certain skepticism, deeming it insufficient but not entirely misguided. Unlike Mel, Kino was never exiled, suggesting Ambessa saw some value, however incomplete, in his ideology.
When Ambessa delivered the news of Kino's death to Mel, she expressed her regret, believing her distractions had cost her the chance to save him.
Upon her arrival in Piltover, Ambessa addressed Elora by name, indicating at least a passing acquaintance, though the true nature of their relationship remains unclear.
Ambessa saw in Jayce a means to stir conflict between Piltover and Zaun, pushing him toward developing hextech weaponry. She intended to harness these weapons for the Medarda Clan, protecting them from the Noxian who might otherwise seek retribution for Kino's actions.
Using Jayce as a pawn, Ambessa succeeded in inciting him to act against Zaun impulsively. When Mel confronted her about this manipulation, Ambessa was indifferent, viewing Jayce solely as a tool to serve her ends.
Ambessa held the Council of Piltover in low regard, believing they lacked the decisiveness to confront the looming Zaunite threat, allowing it to grow unchecked. She warned Jayce that without proactive preparations for war, the Council would risk leaving themselves vulnerable to Zaun's advances.
